Hi, thanks for stopping by my channel! I'm Ray and I work full-time in commercial TV production as a DP and Camera Operator. I've been working in production for a decade, but my career took leaps and bounds after I decided to go back to school to pursue a degree. I got my B.A. in TV and Film and have been working for a commercial production company ever since. I've had the opportunity to work for tons of big brands and celebrities, athletes, musicians, and corporations. I'm here on UA-cam just as another Creative outlet. I have fun making videos and sharing what I know, so here is the www.RayValencia.com UA-cam channel. An outlet for filmmaking gear, tips, and tutorials.

SmallRig RHINOCEROS cage for a7IV a7SIII a7RV - Cinema Rig Build Video
SmallRig RHINOCEROS is the new camera cage system designed for the Sony a7IV, a7SIII, and a7RV. This new cage is lighter than a traditional aluminum cage due to the carbon fiber body and hollowing out points on the cage the reduce the weight. The Rhinoceros top handle makes this cage even better with more mounting points and the matching Rhino print, gun metal, camo, gray tone cage.
In this video we are going to be building out the Sony a7 IV into a proper cinema camera so grab a seat and let's build this camera together.
I have videos on a lot of the parts listed, but this video is not sponsored so please feel free to use my links to get your parts. Also, check out the dedicated videos on these parts and SUBSCRIBE to the channel.

god you have no idea what you are doing
Just so you know…I just shot a $7M movie called “The Florida Wild”… look for it next summer in theaters, my dear hater bruh.
does it work with batteries or cable?
Hey, great video man.. question, are you able to record 4k60? or do I just need faster cables? I saw you were doing 4k 24
Good job
Why does the camera charge regardless of whether USB power supply is set to on or off?
I spent 30 minutes looking for a good review for this mic because I just bought it. Yours is by far the best!! Thanks for the detailed review of the VM30 🙏🏾
I highly appreciate you stopping by to watch this
Thanks for review Ray. I've been looking for good and in reasonable price. This one perfectly match to my needs so.. I'm waiting for delivery :)
You kinda read my mind, always picking gear I'm interested in! Wonderful review. Wondering if it'll work with the FX3 handle mount for Smallrig on this one for the A7SIII. Now you need to buy Falcam F50 QR for your manfrotto stuff.
That’s a good question. Wish I had it to test it out myself. Definitely a unique and cool looking cage. One good thing about recently picking up the a7IV is that there are already Version 2 and V3 cages from pretty much every manufacturer at this point. Lots to choose from.
I need to plug the sata cable or work without ?
Puedes hace un test de ruido?
Small rig is extremely over priced . simply never buying anything small rig
All camera gear is overpriced, lol! I have so much SmallRig on all my cameras. I don’t just use SmallRig though. I also use Tilta, Kondor Blue, Shape, and 8Sinn, but all those brands usually cost even more. This Rhino cage isn’t a basic cage though… it’s a re-design/upgrade to carbon fiber from the original heavier aluminum cages.
Those mist filters look like my old lens with fungus. 😂
Really needed this video bro, ppreciate you greatly
Why does not a SINGLE review say HOW LONG IT LASTS!?!?!?!???
Shocking results in the long term. Here’s how long it lasts in my long term review: Mini V-Mount Battery BATTLE! ZGCine vs Moman vs AndyCine vs Core SWX ua-cam.com/video/Ey8AVtYaqEE/v-deo.html
Can you adjust how high the gradual grey filter sits in the frame or is ot just in the middle by default? Does this clamp directly onto lenses with 95mm outer diameter?
Damn good so useful information :) I spent 3 hours fo that information. Great help love you 😘
Wow, this video explained so much for me. I am a total newb to all of this stuff and have been watching all of these vids saying, "you have to get this filter, it's essential!" but not explaining why. You explained "why" in a very thorough and easy to understand way. Thank you.
I must be doing something really wrong...I went out and did the two channel recording using one deity mic....it is almost as if my recording is from two different events...
Black magic filter?
I've considered picking up another similar lens for my FX30, the sony E PZ 18-110mm. Do you know that lens?
Looks like a great lens. Awesome vid Ray.
What lens do u used on vlog?
Why do you have to beat all the material to a pulp? Have you ever invested out of your own pocket?
anyone use this for their SM7B?
Glad I stumbled on this video. Was about to spend more on the Tiffen, but looks like the K&F is the way to go. Also, was going for the 1/8, but I actually want the 1/4 now. Thank you for the video!
You still work at HSN?
After 6 years at HSN, I left and went freelance 2 years ago!
Wind test wasn't OK. I'm thinking of buying this (June 7th 2024), but you needed to make the wind noise loud enough, not hard to do, without the foam cover and wind muff on firstly. ie an oscillating fan at high speed should be more obvious as the baseline comparison of what foam and wind muff (dead cat) should reduce. Then put on the foam and wind muff, that should have completely cut out the booming wind sound, unless the wind muff is totally useless, which is what I seem to feel is the case from two other 'wind test' reviews of this mic. Maybe don't put on the foam noise reducer, just the wind muff only. Then switch on 75hz and then 150hz cut. If with all the wind noise reductions on you can hear any wind booming then it's a fail, would probably even fail blowing on it with the breath even. All reviewers seem not to be testing it at the limit, ie if it's to be used as an onboard run&gun shotgun mic on camcorder it's coming over to me as a failure in terms of wind noise. If you want a wireless indoor mic, but aren't concerned about *ELIMINATING* wind noise then it does sound fine.
I am using the filter because of this video, but why in my camera pop some glare? How to achieve the bloomy looks at some light without causing glare? Please help
that washed out mist is part of “the look” from mist filters. It looks nice when you let sunlight leak through a crack, or between leaves, etc but if you point it straight at the sun/bright source the effect may get too strong. Lights can be in the shot, but not aiming straight into the lens. That will make any lens flare, but the mist will intensify it. Hope this helps! 🤓
@@RayValencia Thanks for the explanation, yeah i did shoot it straight to the light source and it makes the glare so pop up. So your suggestion must be that i can shoot to light source but dont let it straight to the camera, am i right? Sorry for my broken english 🤝
Thank Ray for such a HELPFUL & DETAILED review of AndyCine , Core SWX, Moman, and ZGCine v mount batteries.
Thanks, I have the newer ZG Cine, new Core NanoX, and SmallRig VB 99 Pro I’m comparing currently
Awesome video Ray! Have you tested out the Small Rig V99 Pro? Also digging the labels on your USB wires...are those custom or is there a link?
Hey Jefferson. Check out my video on the V99 Pro. I have several other newer batteries I’m reviewing too. The labels are from a label maker. Here’s the VB99Pro: ua-cam.com/video/CKr9y7YJhHQ/v-deo.html
Definitely want a comparison. To avoid having to which would you pick?
Which one should I use for a GOPRO 12?
Can we use aio when I have only 4pin RGB conectors on my pc
To me it looks really front heavy
does it works with Sony FX30?
Yes
Hi Ray. I have a question, why when I import the footage into premiere pro, it cannot detect the footages have 4 track audio? and ended up with no audio at all at the project window.
Hey Ray. Awesome channel, your videos have been super helpful over the years. I’ve got a question that’s always bugged me as I can’t figure out the settings. When I’m using the 2 x Rode Wireless mics I have them set in split mode and yet monitoring on the camera I’m hearing a mixed or merged audio. I’m not hearing 1 mic’s audio in say the left ear and the other mic in the right. Also when I import and seperate the tracks in Da Vinci it only has a merged recording. Wondering if you’ve run into this problem? Or do you just take the individual recordings from the onboard memory on the Rode TXs?
Thanks onasht. I appreciate that! If you use the 3.5mm jack (Input 3) it will separate the mics on 3/4 (if you have your Rode set to sep. outputs). If you want to use the 2 XLR ports, I ended up using a Comica 3.5mm to XLR channel splitter: geni.us/Comica_XLRsplitter Then you can adjust the headphone settings in your camera to play on your left/right ear. Hope this helps. I just got the Rode Wireless PRO yesterday, so I'll be visiting this topic very soon.
Great video! At 1:36 you put CPL&VND 1-5 stop true color filter. Please tell me how do you adjust with one nob wheel CPL differently from VND or VND from CPL?
That is the hardest part. You have to rotate your ND, then take it off...rotate your CPL, then pop the ND back on (granted, hoping it is still in the right spot).
Love this mic But the issue I am having is when I connect it in Bluetooth Mode, it echoes.
Thanks for the review! Super useful!
how did you overcome the flickering led issue when RGB is in breathing setting that the converter causes? i have a 4 pin header and 3pin AIO, fans so on and the converter fixes that great but now i can only use the solid color otherwise my PC gives me a seizure from flashes Im not he only one its all over the web and I've tried all the software's updated drivers. anyone have any tips I'm all ears
Great video. Was trying to decide between getting a nd filter or black mist. Probably just go with a 1/8th black mist first
I'm just wondering how you actually hold your gimbal with a side handle and pull focus simultaneously? I'm asking this question because I have a fairly similar setup and it's really heavy.
SO HEAVY! Nowadays, I'm using the RS4 Pro and a Tilta Ring grip. I haven't shown this setup on the channel yet though. Coming soon
Hey man, thanks for the review and for showing us how to do the multiple-tracks-output part. I just have a question though - will it be possible to replicate the outputting-to-4-separate-tracks part using a Zoom H5?
For sure thanks for checking it out. I think you should be fine as long as you can separate all your channels out, which may require an extra cable. I use a Comica 3.5mm to XLR splitter, which gets you a Left/Right XLR output of the Receiver output port: geni.us/Comica_XLRsplitter
went with 1/4 k&f, absolutely great for a budget
Great video!!! Definitely thinking of picking this up
Just hope to complement this great review....about the tilt brake, I heard from a former Sachtler and O'Connor employee that it is not intended to lock the payload but preclude tilt movement of a balanced and counter-balanced camera payload, and to fend-off mishap when the operator necessarily takes his hand(s) off of the pan bar(s), and especially when he must leave the camera unattended, even for just a moment, in case a passer-by inadvertently bumps into the camera or tripod. So it does be unsafe to to break contact with an imbalanced, improperly counter-balanced camera payload on a fluid head/tripod system, even with the tilt brake applied. For this reason, the operator should not apply the tilt brake and leave the camera payload unattended for even a moment until the camera payload has been balanced on the fluid head, and then properly counterbalanced. For the extremely heavy payload, which requires a matching tripod system, there will normally be BUILD LOCK which can LOCK the head from tilting and panning for safety concerns.
Thank you! I highly appreciate your info on this. I own a Sacthler and I just shot a feature film on the OConnor so I’m used the lock feature being a true lock. This is why I mentioned the average user not having their counterbalance properly set and camera in the center, meaning it could possibly tip. Although, I’ve never had my camera tip on its own. Like you were saying too, It does take some force to get the camera to tilt. But the Pan Lock, really locks it down. Thanks again for your help on explaining this.
Very professional review, unbiased, and full of product details and application tips.👍👍👍
Much appreciated!
Biggest question: Color cast through the stops?
Hi ray, I'm just gonna ask because I bought the converter today and I tried it but it flickers for me. I did the same thing as you did on the method #2, my motherboard doesn't have any 3-pin rgb header too. I mean it works but only for steady light mode and it only works for selected colors, it flickers when I use other light modes. My motherboard is a MSI B450M Mortar Max and my fans are 1x Thermalright TL-C12B-S V3 and x2 Thermalright TL-C12B-S V2 for my Thermalright Aqua Elite 240 V3 and x2 Arctic P12 PWM PST A-RGB. I hope you can help me ray, thanks.
